Baldur’s Gate 3 – Unlock the Chilling Power of Mourning Frost

Baldur’s Gate 3 - Underdark

Welcome to the exciting world of Baldur’s Gate 3! If you’re an RPG enthusiast, you’re in for a frosty treat. In Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, players have the opportunity to explore the mysterious Underdark, a subterranean realm teeming with Drow, Duergar, and Deep Gnomes. It’s like a snow globe of ancient secrets just waiting to be uncovered.

Now, pay close attention, adventurers, because down in this icy abyss lies a hidden secret. Three unique items, the Icy Crystal, Icy Helve, and Icy Metal, are scattered throughout the Underdark. While they may seem like mere trinkets, each of them holds the key to unlocking a chilling power.

Unlocking the Frozen Trio

The Underdark is a labyrinthine maze, and it’s easy to get swept away by all the forgotten corners. That’s why many players miss out on finding these icy wonders. They don’t come with a flashy quest marker or a big neon sign pointing to them. But fear not, my friends, for I shall guide you to the whereabouts of each item:

  • The Icy Helve: This little gem can be found in the clutches of a Drow named Dhourn. You’ll stumble upon him petrified, thanks to the Spectator, west of the Selunite Outpost. But here’s the catch: if you want to lay your hands on that shiny Helve, you must resist the urge to slay Dhourn. Instead, pull off a sneaky pickpocket move before he bids adieu to the area.

  • The Icy Crystal: Oh, the madness that awaits you! The Crystal is guarded by a deranged Drow called Filro the Forgotten near the Sussur Tree. Brace yourself for a wild encounter as Filro and his pet Hook Horrors won’t hold back. Defeat them, claim the Crystal, and revel in victory!

  • The Icy Metal: There’s a chilling sight awaiting you in the Myconid’s treasure grove. It’s the lifeless body of a Drow, and next to it lies the Icy Metal, waiting to be discovered. To access this treasure trove, make sure you complete SovereGameTopic Spaw’s quest and rid the nearby area of those pesky Duergar slavers.

Mourning Frost Staff

The Frozen Symphony – Crafting Mourning Frost

Now, once you’ve gathered all three Icy items, it’s time to unleash their frozen potential! Simply right-click on any of the items and select Combine. With a stroke of genius, drag the remaining two items into the vacant slots, and behold the birth of a masterpiece – the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff, a truly remarkable magical artifact.

The Mourning Frost is no ordinary staff. It bestows upon its wielder a myriad of powerful abilities. For spellcasters who dabble in the wonders of Cold damage, the staff is an absolute game-changer. Get ready for its frosty features:

  • Cold Delight: With the Mourning Frost in hand, all Cold damage rolls made by the wielder receive a +1 bonus because let’s face it, coldness counts!

  • Chilling Surprise: Casting Cold spells with the Mourning Frost has an added bonus. Your enemies may find themselves drenched in the Chilled condition, making them resistant to Fire but oh-so-vulnerable to Cold. Spoiler alert: they’ll be taking double the Cold damage for the next two turns.

  • Ray of Frost: Need a little extra something to freeze enemies in their tracks? The Mourning Frost grants you the Ray of Frost cantrip, perfect for those times when you want to unleash a frosty blast of pain.

  • Enhanced Attack: Last but not least, the Mourning Frost gives you a simple yet effective +1 enhancement to physical attack rolls. It’s like dipping your weapon in a pool of icy confidence.

So, my fellow adventurers, embark on this frosty journey through Baldur’s Gate 3 and secure the chills and thrills of the Mourning Frost Quarterstaff. Wield its power wisely and conquer the Underdark with your newfound frozen might!

Remember, Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for PC now, with a PlayStation 5 release scheduled for September 6, 2023. Stay frosty, my friends!
